The Interpreter Pool of the City of Pforzheim
The city of Pforzheim has been training bilingual Pforzheim residents to become cultural mediators and volunteer language mediators since 2015. The qualification is organised by the City of Pforzheim/ Interpreter Pool Coordinator and financed by the Ministry of Social Affairs, Health and Integration from state funds approved by the Baden-Württemberg state parliament.
The approx. 35 language mediators are primarily available to employees of the city's specialised offices and facilities. Other social organisations in Pforzheim can also make use of the interpreter pool. However, they must cover the costs of using the volunteer language mediators themselves.
The volunteer language mediators can only be used for oral translations - they do not translate documents or interpret in a medical context.
Which languages are represented in the interpreter pool?
Language skills range from Albanian, Amharic, Arabic, Bulgarian, English, Farsi, French, Hindi, Italian, Croatian, Kurdish-Kurmanci, Kurdish-Sorani, Pashto, Polish, Punjabi, Romanian, Russian, Serbo-Croatian, Slovakian, Somali, Turkish and Turkmen to Ukrainian, Hungarian and Urdu.
